Following up on my last prompt, “Witnesses for my Airport Character Assassination Trial,” and later that same day, I find myself not on the no-fly list as evidenced by the fact that I am settled into my $200 seat (I eventually got half that back) and trying to get the free wifi to work.
What a lovely and hopeful piece Mandy. I never thought about bringing the flight attendant a gift, but I like it a lot. I love your natural curiosity and empathy and ability to connect with anyone. Our neighbor brought us a big basket full of apples from her property. I’m still making things from them!
Lisa, your story about the apple gift reminds me of last year when the woman who cleans at Tinkertown presented all of us employees with handmade stockings filled with goodies like candles and lotion. It was the kindest surprise I had ever received.
I have never thought about gifts for flight attendants. It got me thinking about tipping….not just for waiters but yesterday I paid for something ( not a service) and the last item on the screen was did I want o leave a tip, ugh.
One Christmas I received a huge box sent from Utah by cousin Deb. I had no idea what it could be. When I opened it, I burst into tears. Deb had taken the quilt squares left by our grandmother and made them into a quilt for me. Having those squares made from Papa’s old shirts and old flour sacks felt like Nana was with me. Still one of my most treasured belongings.
I guess it's different if it's voluntary!
Oh what an incredible and moving surprise!

I really enjoy your thoughtful musings, Mandy.
